Learning Objectives
An important learning objective for Charlie's course "Principles of Classroom Management" "is that students be able to create order in a variety of classroom environments by gaining control of themselves." Video of students in their classrooms helps them develop an awareness of themselves as teachers and helps them gain that control.
In "Introduction to Teaching and Learning as a Meaningful Enterprise," one of Charlie's objectives is that students "begin the study of good teaching." Video provides an excellent way for Charlie to present examples of teaching, and allow students to examine whats good about it.

Charlie explains they can then also apply other "expert" opinion about what good is. So video gives us a view of teaching that stands still. That allows us to return to it over and over again, and allows me to show them how many layers of meaning there are in a simple act of teaching and learning. Then I can create with them ideas about how to manipulate the episodes in the service of learning.
Standards
Charlie has spent significant time considering how his courses' content supports the achievement of programmatic and state standards by students. Take a look at this document prepared by Charlie to see how these courses align to various teaching standards:

This use models to pre-service teachers how digital video can be integrated into course content.
This use heightens students awareness of classroom dynamics, status, and equity, which are major themes in Charlies course. |
