iMovie Instructions
CONTENT:
You will be working in a group of 2-3 to create a 3-5 minute movie that teaches a skill or clarifies a concept  within a grade level expectation. Vertmont FrameWork of Standards and Learning Opportunities.

1.3.g. Analyze, interpret, and evaluate texts produced for a wide range of purposes and audiences, including their cultural, political, and aesthetic contexts.
Interviews with famous authors. Discuss some books that highschool students might be required to read. Create an advertisement for a short story or a book.


1.9.g. Engage readers by creating a context that makes clear the significance of the story and of its central idea or tension;
Act out an important scene in a play or book  that would engage high school students' interest and be classical content. The Canterbury digiTales Project is a take on a Chaucer's character in modern times.

Mathematics

7.6.g. Reason proportionally to solve problems involving equivalent fractions or equal ratios (proportions); and
Middle school students do a great job in explaining how right triangles and  ratios can be used to measure the height of a flag pole.

Use the smart board to video an explanation of how to use a spreadsheet to calculate the averages of temperature in different states to explain population distribution.

Standard Ideas

6.9.b. Analyze and debate the problems of majority rule and the protection of minority rights as written in the U.S. Constitution.
Have a "Newscaster" with an obivous political point of view interviewing someone with the opposite point of view. For example  debating the gay marriage issue. A majority has prevented a minority from the rights a married couple would be entitled to.

6.4.ddd. Sequence historical eras; identify the characteristics of
transitions between era
Act out a scene from a historical time (you can use black and white and even septia to create an old effect. ).
Here's an example of Coloniel America.
 See if audience can determine the era. What are the clues?
See how this is done in a slide iMovie show as ninth graders studied an American era.
Here's one where students researched a soldier from the civil war, read his diary notes and enacted a scene from his life.


Science         
Standard Ideas

7.15.eee. Analyze and explain natural resource management and demonstrate an understanding of the ecological interactions and interdependence between humans and their resource demands on environmental systems
Watershed Documentary

7.13.ddd. Explain and justify how natural selection and its evolutionary consequences provide a scientific explanation for the fossil record of ancient life forms.
Fake news break: Explain why a whale has been found in Charlotte Vermont. Interview People and use web information for an answer.

7.12cc. Explain the relationships between preessure, volume, and the amount of has (e.g., soda bottles, auto tires).
Show  a scientific experiment. See how these middle school students explain some facts about air pressure.
