An expert in communication sciences and disorders and a leader in inclusive education and cultural and linguistic diversity, Dr. Anderson is a past professor and chair of the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Florida International University, where she also served as dean in the School of Health Sciences. Before that, Anderson was a chair for ten years and on the faculty for 16 years in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Howard University in Washington, D.C. She authored a seminal book in her profession, “Introduction to Human Communication Disorders,” now in its eighth edition. Dr. Anderson is a Fellow of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and received the ASHA Honors of the Association Award, the highest award given by ASHA, in recognition of distinguished and exceptional contributions to the field of speech, language, and hearing. She also received the Harvard Foundation Medallion for Multicultural Education and is a Legacy Laureate of the University of Pittsburgh.
