UVM Research Data Management Policy (coming soon)

  • The Research Data Management Policy will help clarify responsibilities with respect to management, ownership, stewardship, storage, safeguarding, sharing, dissemination and the transferring of research data.

  • Questions can be directed to Research Administration and Integrity.

Research Computing, Data Storage, Safeguarding

  • Enterprise Technology Services (ETS) and the Vermont Advanced Computing Center (VACC) provide support to all researchers at UVM including research data storage, safeguarding, infrastructure support and user support.

  • Begin by heading to Research Computing.

  • For UVM data storage options see UVM Storage Solutions.

  • For assistance or not sure what to do contact Mike Austin.

Data Transfer and Use Agreements

  • UVM as a member of the Federal Demonstration Partnership (FDP) supports the use of the FDP DTUA templates. These templates have been developed to facilitate the transfer and sharing of research data between U.S. based nonprofit and/or governmental organizations for research or public health purposes.

  • Other DUA Templates modeled after the FDP language are available in the SPA Forms Library.

  • UVM Data: For assistance with completing an incoming or outgoing DUA for UVM Data, contact Research Administration and Integrity.

  • UVMMC Data: For assistance with completing an incoming or outgoing DUA for UVMMC Data, contact Office of Clinical Trial Research.

DUA: What to Do and What will Happen

  • Investigators and staff are to submit all UVM DUAs to SPA using UVMClick - Agreements or send to spa@uvm.edu.

  • See the UVMClick Quick Guide: How to Create a No Money Agreement and Submit to SPA.

  • Include all relevant documentation, emails and any additional instructions needed to process the agreement.

  • The DUA will be assigned to a SPA Specialist for review and coordination with other offices, including ETS for data storage/security or LCOM (see below).

  • When the DUA is ready for signature, the SPA Specialist will work with the PI and/or staff to have fully executed by all parties.

DUAs with LCOM

  • A DUA initiated by a LCOM researcher will be routed from SPA to the LCOM DUA Team for a review.
  • The LCOM review is conducted by the LCOM Medicine Technology Services Team who work with the researcher to ensure the data is stored and secured correctly.

  • The LCOM DUA Team will indicate to SPA when the DUA is ready to move to signatures.

Data Management Plans for Grant Applications

  • For assistance with developing a high-quality data management plan that meets UVM and sponsor requirements see the UVM Library Research Guide.
