Oakledge History: People Involved
GIV Students
This group of 13 high school students from around Vermont was the driving force behind the success of this project. Chris, Tim, Kerry, Maia, Greg, Anne-Perry, Zac, Sarah, Melissa, Nicole, Tyler, Peter, and Eric worked extremely hard, making fascinating discoveries and pulling diverse information together. Their work will have lasting effects well beyond the summer of 2003; they designed a series of posters that will form the basis for a set of interpretive signs to be erected around Oakledge Park. Faculty Advisor
Paul Bierman is a professor of geology at UVM, and has been a faculty member with the Governor's Institute of Vermont (Science & Technology) for 8 years. His research interests include geomorphology (the study of how landscapes form and change over geologic time) and human interactions with landscapes. He has advised many students working on projects relating human activities and the environment. Paul was the driving force behind the Oakledge History project, directing the students and their research and helping find ways to keep the project going. Web Development:
This site was developed by Eric Butler, a UVM graduate student in the geology and education departments from 2001-2004. Eric's professional interests include geoscience education and human interactions with the natural landscape. While at UVM, Eric worked on many projects related to these interests, including curriculum development for an introductory geology course, implementing the Vermont Landscape Change Program at a local middle school, and developing the Oakledge web site. For more about Eric and his interests and work, visit his personal web site.
