Affiliate artist, horn

Joshua Thompson is currently on faculty as the horn instructor at both the University of Vermont and Castleton University. In addition to teaching horn at Castleton, he also conducts the wind ensemble and teaches applied conducting. He completed graduate and post graduate study at the Hartt School, studying with Daniel Grabois and David Wakefield, respectively. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in music education from the College of Saint Rose in Albany, New York.

He has performed with several ensembles and organizations across the Northeastern United States, they have included: Albany Pro Musica, Battenkill Chorale, Berkshire Symphony Orchestra, Burlington Chamber Orchestra, Hartford Independent Chamber Orchestra, Hubbard Hall Opera Theater, Park Playhouse (Albany, NY), and the Schenectady Symphony Orchestra. He is the 2011 winner of the solo competition at the Northeast Horn Workshop. Joshua has recorded with Johnny Vic and Naxos records.

As an advocate for the arts in our communities, he is the founder and director of Gloversville Community Music. There he maintains a large private studio and conducts the Glove City Winds, a wind ensemble comprised of volunteer musicians from New York and New England. Through GCM, he is the artistic director of the “Chamber Music at the Chamber” concert series, a 2017 Saratoga Arts grant awardee. He is also on the board of directors of the Gloversville Business Improvement District, an ongoing downtown revitalization project.
