This week, the Grossman Student Advisory Committee hosted the fourth annual Dean’s Cup Case Competition held at the Grossman School of Business.

During this one-day business case competition,  UVM undergraduate students had a chance to hone their business and consulting skills. Students were tasked with applying what they have learned within the classroom to solve real-world business challenges. To prepare the case, teams of 2-4 students had ten days before Tuesday’s presentation, to refine their recommendations and analyses.

In his opening remarks, Dean Sanjay Sharma spoke of the value of an internal competition, saying it gave students a chance to refine presentation skills and learn more about how a case competition works. This helps students prepare for larger case competitions against other schools around the world.

When asked about their experience in preparing for the day, the winning team said, “After two years of navigating in-person, mixed modality and online classes, our team decided now was a great time to brush up on presentation and public speaking skills. We registered for the 2022 Grossman Dean’s Cup to practice our communication, analysis, and critical thinking which we felt were underutilized during online-pandemic learning.”

Luckily for this team the fit was easy, saying “We instantly found that we worked well together as a team. Leaning on each other’s strengths we came up with a comprehensive recommendation and are excited to bring home the gold!

We’d like to thank GSAC for hosting a great event that helped develop our skills for future case competitions and future employment.”

Student teams presented their findings in real-time to the judging panel who evaluated their various, innovative case solutions. An extra special thanks to the judging panel comprised of business experts, owners, and faculty members Barb Arel, Dodge Bingham, Pat Buono, Bill Carter, Rocki-Lee DeWitt, Marian Fritz, Edward Gamble, Suzanne Lowensohn, David Mount, Andrew Prevost, and Amy Tomas. The panel provided insightful feedback to the competitors and highlighted opportunities for improvement and growth in future case competitions.

After preliminary, and finals rounds, the final results were as follows:

1st Place: Trevor Davis, Chris Potter, Garrett Sinclair, and Ryan Guerino

2nd Place: Deng Adiang, and Nicole Eaton

Best Presenter: Christian Groff

Congratulations and thank you to all the GSAC members, student competitors, coaches, and judges!
