Background
Dr. Hampel received his B. Sc. degree in Biochemistry from the University of Saskatchewan in 1989. He went on to study the structure and function of DNA triplexes under Professor Jeremy Lee in the same department and received his Ph.D. in 1994. Dr. Hampel joined Dr. John Burke’s lab as a postdoctoral associate in 1994 and since that time has focused on the structure and activity of catalytic RNA molecules, including group I introns, hairpin and hammerhead ribozymes. He assumed his current faculty position in 1999.
