Current Projects:

The following is a list of current standards committee projects. The listed "owner" of a project is the central coordinator of the listed item. Listed "contacts" are individuals who will be working closely with the process owner.

All communications (questions, or comments) concerning any particular project should be directed through the project's owner or a listed contact.

  • Scumware Prevention and Remediation tools
    Spyware and other maliscious software is consuming huge amounts of support resources and poses threats to the security of information at UVM. There are tools to prevent infection and to aid in recovery.

Proposed Projects:

The following projects have been suggested for review for the standards committee and are awaiting a volunteer to head the effort:
  • Web Browsers
    Phase out support for Netscape, replace it with Mozilla products

  • Supported Hardware Famlies
    Recommended Manufacturere/Models for Printers, Scanners, Desktop Computers

  • Palm-top Computing
    Supported device list - Palm/Handspring vs Windows CE and recommended supporting software.

Completed Projects:

The following projects have been "closed" by the standards committee. In most cases, the findings of these projects were published in the Standards Committee support statement released June 2001.
  • OS Support - 2002
    Support Sunsets for Windows 98, Mac OS 8.x
    Introduce support for Windows XP

    Office Applications Support - 2002
    Support Sunsets for Office 97
    Introduce support for Office XP, "Office X" for Mac OS X
  • Office Application Suite Support- 2001
    Legacy phase out, New Office Suite support
    Discontinue: MS Office 4,95
    Support: Office 97,2K

  • OS Support- 2001
    Legacy phase out, New OS support
    Discontinue: DOS, Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Mac OS 7

  • Telnet Replacement (Secure Shell)
    The committee has identified NiftyTelnet+SSH and Secure Communications SSH as the supported SSH client standards for the UVM campus.
