 About research projects

Our laboratory currently focuses on two important research topics:

    (1) Gene mapping in rare familial disorder

    (2) Omics approach to study viral etiology in human disease

 About Dr. Dawei Li (PI)

Dr. Dawei Li obtained extensive training in various human genetic and genomic analyses at Rockefeller University and Yale University. He is particularly experienced in mapping genes in various human diseases. He published the first genome-wide association study of antisocial personality disorder and identified a novel associated gene COL25A1, which was proven to drive behavioral alteration in mice. He used a combined method, carried out the first genome-wide study of copy number variations (CNVs) in substance abuse, and identified associated CNVs. Using a diverse cohort of analytic methods, both family and case-control designs, his 11 years of genetic research contributed to the identification of dozens of disease-associated genes, such as with schizophrenia, ADHD, suicide, and addiction. Some of his identified mutations were selected for disease risk prediction by genetic testing providers, such as 23andMe. In recent years, the Li laboratory has also developed software and database resources for genomic data analyses (many new softwares will be available soon).

 About computer server

We have built a high-performance computer cluster, likely the second largest in Vermont, which allows us to carry out various omics-based data analyses. All commonly-used software and packages have been installed. The most important is we have developed our in-house pipelines for our two projects (familial exome-sequencing project; and viral etiology platform).

Our laboratory routinely performs various sequencing data analyses.
