ENVS 195 Toxics Policy and the Public

The course will develop students’ skills analyzing the scientific, legal, social, and communication aspects of managing chemicals identified as being toxic. It will offer students a general background in toxicology and environmental chemistry, and will cover important pieces of federal legislation that pertain to the regulation of toxic substances. Case studies focusing on the histories of local Superfund sites will be used in class, and field trips to some of these sites may be arranged.
