Donovan, T. M., and M. Alldredge.  2007.  Exercises in Estimating and Monitoring Abundance. <http://www.uvm.edu/envnr/vtcfwru/spreadsheets/abundance/abundance.htm>

This e-book was developed to provide students with a basic understanding of approaches used to estimate and monitor wild populations.  Though we do not cover sampling design issues directly, readers should spend time learning about the benefits and pitfalls of different designs.  Some good sources of information about sampling designs and estimation are:

D. L. Borchers, S. T. Buckland, W. Zucchini.  2002.  Estimating animal abundance. Springer.
W. L. Thompson (ed.).  2004. Sampling rare or elusive species: Concepts, designs, and techniques for estimating population parameters.  Island Press.
Amstrup, S. C., T. L. McDonald, and B. F. J. Manley (eds).   2005.  Handbook of capture-recapture analysis.  Princeton University Press.
Williams, B. K., J. D. Nichols, and M. J. Conroy.  2002.  Analysis and management of animal populations.  Academic Press.
Gary White's lecture notes.

In general, the exercises in this e-book are grouped into one of the following:
