| My research focuses on the structure and function of lakes, streams and estuaries, and the ways that human activities, especially the introduction of contaminants, changes those communities. My current research program has four main thrusts: (1) developing and applying techniques to measure community-level responses to sediment-associated contaminants; (2) exploring how the ecological integrity of Lake Champlain is changing with the introduction of zebra mussels, including work on the implications for the lake's historic ship wrecks, (3) investigating measurable characteristics that can be used as indicators of healthy ecosystems and ecosystems at risk, and (4) assessing the connections in stream ecosystems, and effects of land use on aquatic ecosystem health. | |
