The University of Vermont Directory is compiled directly from the university's Student Information System (Banner SIS) and the Human Resource System (PeopleSoft). The Office of Residential Life provides Banner with the student telephone numbers. The directory contains listings for all active
students, faculty and staff, and it is updated in the early morning, Monday through Saturday.
Student names, classes, e-mail addresses and local phone numbers are publicly available via the directory. Additional information, including majors and local addresses, are only available to UVM students, faculty and staff via an advanced search, using a UVM netID. Under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) (.pdf), students may request that personal information be removed from the directory. If a student makes this request, then all his or her information will be suppressed from the directory.
A student can choose to opt out of directory display in Banner under the "Preferred First Name and Pronoun" option in the "Student Records" section. This can also be found in the personal information tab of myUVM. This procedure applies to all students, including medical and continuing education students.
Faculty and staff names, office telephone numbers, office addresses, departments and titles are publicly available via the directory. Additional information, including home telephone numbers and addresses, are only available to UVM students, faculty and staff via an advanced search, using a UVM netID. This additional information also is indicated in the directory records of students who are university employees.
Faculty and staff may request one of two privacy options: listing only their work information or listing no information. When you begin working at UVM, you fill out a data sheet
provided by Human Resources, and you may select your privacy option then. Later, you may change your privacy option at any time by contacting the Human Resources office, second floor, Waterman Building.
Departments and units may be listed in the directory by requesting or updating an Account for Departments or Student Organizations. These accounts are available from Account Services, Waterman Building, or (802) 656-2006.
Emeriti faculty and retired staff are currently listed in the directory.
UVM students, faculty and staff may list additional information in the directory listing by using the update directory information option available on this page and filling out or updating the editable fields. This optional information is viewable by all Web site visitors.
Searches on network IDs will be verified, even for those individuals with full privacy settings, and will include any optional information submitted by the account owner.
