BIO

Dr. Tiffanie Spencer oversees and provides leadership in facilitating a community partnership network to expand diversity equity, and inclusion initiatives for the College of Education and Social Services (CESS). She collaborates and builds relationships with local and national organizations, and on-campus colleagues to develop, implement, and assess inclusive excellence activities to influence and enable viable pathways of success for faculty, staff and students from historically underrepresented backgrounds. Additionally, she provides expertise and support to faculty on diversity related curriculum and program development.

Dr. Spencer is also an integral team member of the Higher Education and Student Affairs master’s program. She leads efforts to support program activities, including recruitment/admissions, orientation, town halls, racial affinity spaces, assessment, graduation, faculty meetings, and more.

Before joining the University of Vermont community, she earned her doctorate from the Institute of Higher Education at the University of Georgia while working with the Georgia College Advising Corps, an institutional partner of a national nonprofit that trains recent college undergraduates to assist students of underserved high schools with their postsecondary search and selection process. Her research interests focus on transition pathways and experiences of first generation, low-income, and underrepresented students from secondary to postsecondary educational opportunities.

Prior to her time at the University of Georgia, she devoted most of her profession to Higher Education and Student Affairs work in capacities including Residence Life, Student Conduct, Student Organization advising, as well as student advising as part of an empowerment and retention program, focused on working with underrepresented student populations. In addition to her to Ph.D., she holds an M.Ed. in Higher Education Management with a concentration in Student Affairs from the University of Pittsburgh, and a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Notre Dame.
