BIO

After completing his master's degree at D'Youville College, Leon worked in Milton, Vermont as a long-term substitute and para educator while also coaching ice hockey, lacrosse, and assisting the athletic department. The following year, he began working in the Department of Student Life at the University of Vermont where he oversaw the club sports program for nearly 14 years. During his time leading club sports, Leon helped to nearly double the size of the program while developing an extensive curriculum and programming around student development, leadership, prevention, and sustainability. His efforts were instrumental in putting UVM club sports on the national stage through his support of successful clubs, engagement in the National Intramural and Recreational Sports Association, and publications in the Recreational Sports Journal.

While leading the club sports program, Leon began teaching courses part-time in the Department of Education and enrolled part-time in the Educational Leadership and Policy Studies doctoral program, earning his Ed.D. in January 2020. His dissertation was titled, "Measuring the implementation fidelity of USA Hockey's American Development Model."

Shortly after completing the doctorate, Leon turned his focus from club sports to teaching at the college level. He has taught courses in physical education, educational leadership, and secondary education. He continues to be heavily involved in the Vermont hockey community coaching the UVM Men's Club Hockey team, serving as the goalie development coordinator and a coach developer for Vermont State Amateur Hockey Association, as well as running his own coaching companies.

Leon's research interests stem directly from his experiences and include coaching, curriculum, leadership, and student development.
