The Dean's Lecture Award

TThe Dean's Lecture Award Committee encourages members of the Arts and Sciences community to nominate colleagues to receive the Dean's Lecture Award and to present the Dean's Lecture each fall and spring. The Committee selects both award recipients in the spring.

Established in 1991, the purpose of the Dean's Lecture Award is to recognize and honor colleagues in the College of Arts and Sciences who have consistently demonstrated the ability to translate their professional knowledge and skill into exciting classroom experiences for their students; faculty who meet the challenge of being both excellent teachers and highly respected professionals in their own disciplines. The Award is a celebration of the unusually high quality of our faculty and is an important and treasured event each semester.

The event features a lecture or presentation of creative work germane to the professional area of the recipient. All University faculty, staff, and students are invited to attend the presentation.  Each Dean's Lecture Award recipient will also be given $1,000 in research support.

Deadline: April 1 for both fall and spring awards.

There are three criteria for this award:

  1. The nominee should be well known and highly respected in his/her scholarly or artistic field at a regional, national, or international level.
  2. The nominee should hold the rank of Associate Professor or Professor.
  3. The nominee should have demonstrated an ability to translate scholarship or creative work to our students in a manner that is exciting, thought-provoking, and effective.
