Pre-Tenure Research Semester

  • Purpose: Provides teaching release time to promote research.
  • Eligibility: Junior faculty in third or fourth year are relieved of teaching while continuing the usual service and advising obligations for one semester. Rules may vary by department; contact your Department Chair for details.

Faculty Research Support Awards (FRSA)

Deadline for applications: January 31.

The College provides a number of Faculty Research Support Awards for tenure-track/tenured faculty who hold primary appointments in the College.

Seed Grant Awards

Deadline for applications: January 31.

The College provides a number of Seed Grant Awards for tenure-track/tenured faculty who hold primary appointments in the College.

Small Grant Research Awards

Deadlines for applications: November 1 and April 1.

The Small Grant Research Awards provide more limited funds for research and creative performance projects. All full-time faculty [minimum of 0.75 FTE and 9 months] in the College of Arts are eligible to receive support.

International Conference Travel Funds

Deadlines: applications will be evaluated on a first-come, first-served basis.

Funds are available to full-time faculty giving papers at professional meetings held outside the continental United States.

Interdisciplinary Experiential Engagement Funds

Deadline for applications: January 31

Funds are available for proposals designed to increase the range of interdisciplinary courses providing "real-world� learning experiences (i.e., service, research/creative). Projects must involve faculty from at least two UVM departments.

Dean's Research Discretionary Funds.

Deadline: Awards made on a first-come, first-served basis

A limited pool of funds has been reserved so that modest requests requiring a rapid response can be support.

The Lattie F. Coor Awards

The Lattie F. Coor Endowment was created in 1992 to recognize the exceptional accomplishments of a President who served for 13 years at the University of Vermont, from 1976-1989. The endowment’s funds are currently administered by the Humanities Center.

Dean's Lecture Award

Deadline for applications: April 1

Established in 1991, the purpose of the Dean's Lecture Award is to recognize and honor colleagues in the College who meet the challenge of being both excellent teachers and highly respected professionals in their own disciplines. Two Dean's Lecture Award winners are selected, one for the fall and the other for the spring.

  • Purpose: Support of innovative and creative improvements in instruction and learning at UVM.
  • Eligibility: All faculty
Funding for Undergraduate Research
Academic Programs for Learning and Engagement (APLE)
  • Purpose: Summer stipends and grants for collaborative research with CAS faculty, maximum of $3000.
  • Eligibility: CAS undergraduates working with faculty mentors

  • Purpose: Student-faculty research program in all disciplines.
