College and Faculty Senate Committees
Pre-Tenure Research Semester
  • Purpose: Provides teaching release time to promote research.
  • Eligibility: Junior faculty in third or fourth year are relieved of teaching while continuing the usual service and advising obligations for one semester. Rules may vary by department; contact your Department Chair for details.
Sources of Funding
Professional Development Funds
  • Purpose: Professional development, such as travel or conferences. Approximately $1,200 allocated per full-time faculty member to departments. These funds are to be distributed according to specific departmental guidelines. Individual departments may have additional research funds, and faculty are advised to inquire about this with Department Chairs.
  • Eligibility: Members of the full-time faculty bargaining unit.
Faculty Research Support Award
Lattie F. Coor Endowment Funding for Humanities Teaching and Research
Faculty Development Award
  • Purpose: Supports research, scholarly or artistic activities; maximum award of $2,500
  • Eligibility: Full-time Arts and Sciences faculty in the Humanities and other programs concerned with language and culture (see full description).
International Travel Funds
  • Purpose: Supports faculty giving humanities-oriented papers at professional meetings outside the U.S.; maximum award of $500
  • Eligibility: Full-time Arts and Sciences faculty in the Humanities and other programs concerned with language and culture (see full description).
Research Assistantships
  • Purpose: Support research in Humanities, maximum of $1000 (100 hours of research assistance).
  • Eligibility: Faculty in the Humanities, 0.75 FTE or more (see full description).
Conference/Event Co-Sponsorships
  • Purpose: Supports sponsorship of events related to the Humanities; maximum of $300
  • Eligibility: UVM faculty, departments, and programs (see full description).
Support for Humanities Programming and Teaching
  • Purpose: Support of larger Humanities Programming efforts; variable amounts up to $5,000 available, depending on project
  • Eligibility: UVM faculty, departments, and programs (see full description).
Other
Instructional Incentive Grants
  • Purpose: Support of innovative and creative improvements in instruction and learning at UVM.
  • Eligibility: All faculty.
Funding for Undergraduate Research
Academic Programs for Learning and Engagement (APLE)
  • Purpose: Summer stipends and grants for collaborative research with CAS faculty, maximum of $3000.
  • Eligibility: CAS undergraduates working with faculty mentors.
Undergraduate Research Endeavors Competitive Awards (URECA)
  • Purpose: Student-faculty research program in all disciplines.
  • Eligibility: All full-time undergraduate students.
