Project Reviews

On April 30th, all students will submit evaluations of at least five student projects, which will be assigned to you to read. The evaluations should include at least two paragraphs on each project, plus a paragraph summarizing what you learned about the news and about how to analyze the news from reading these five projects. Please submit them electronically.

Your evaluations should answer the following questions, where relevant:

  1. Did the authors have a clear thesis, a clear argument?
  2. Was the thesis relevant to the sociology of news? Could it have been more relevant?
  3. How well did the authors use concepts from the course (e.g., framing, narrative)? How could they have used them better?
  4. How appropriate were the concepts used for the subject?
  5. Are there other relevant concepts the authors could have used?
  6. Can you think of other questions that the project authors could have asked about their material?
  7. Are there other explanations or interpretations of the information that the authors might have considered?
  8. Do you agree with the author's analysis? Could they have said more, or come to a different conclusion?
