A Note from Staff Council President Karmen Swim

Happy August!

Wow, the start of a new year is fast-approaching and the students will soon be back and ready to take on the world! I do love this time of year -- where the campus begins to get busy and plans are underway to celebrate staff at the annual UVM Staff Appreciation Week.

I know there has been a lot of rain this summer, but we have also enjoyed some beautiful sunny summer days and I hope you were able to enjoy this beautiful state that we live in. I hope you are all having a summer that you will remember – however that looks for each of you! For me, it has been filled with special moments with my sister who visited from Kansas and some time at the ocean in Maine.

I want to say thank you to the Staff Council representatives whose terms are ending and welcome to our new representatives who will serve to be the voice of the UVM staff. Continue reading . . .

Staff Council Award Winners, 2017

At the Staff Council Luncheon in June, Brendan Andrews was awarded "The Rock" for overall exceptional service. Stephanie Loscalzo won the Yearling Award for all of her accomplishments in the first year of her Staff Council term. Lastly, Steve Lunna took home the Leaf Award for going above and beyond for Staff Council during the 2016-2017 academic year.

Social Committee Community Service Awards

The Staff Council Social Committee recognizes demonstrated volunteerism by UVM Staff with a $25 award (per staff member) made payable to the 501c3 group or organization connected to the staff member’s volunteer effort.

Over the past year, we recognized Laurie Eddy (the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation), Shirley Pine (Potter's Angels Rescue) and Amy Gilman (Humane Society of Chittenden County).

Central Utility Plant Open House - August 2nd, 12:00-2:00pm

The Physical Plant Department invites the entire UVM community to an Open House to help celebrate the completion of the expansion to the Central Heating and Chilled Water Plant.

Please join us for a behind-the-scenes peek into the Central Plant. Learn how steam and chilled water is produced and distributed underground to provide heating for over 50 campus buildings and air conditioning for most central campus buildings. Learn about the building's interesting history and how it got the nickname "Cage".

Schedule of Events:

12:00 noon: Facility Dedication and Opening Remarks

12:15 - 2:00 pm: Ice cream, refreshments and ongoing 20-minute Facility Tours led by Utility Plant staff.
