Digital Video Technology

Using a digital video camera and software like Apple's iMovie, it is very easy for the string teacher to enhance their instruction. Here are some uses for digital video in the classroom or private studio:

1) Study your students left and right hand technique away from the lesson.
2) Sit down with a student and analyze a performance together - for example, analyzing their left and right hand technique - what works and what doesn’t.
3) Make sample video clips of yourself demonstrating techniques for your students to watch.
4) Create high quality materials for auditions, interviews, promotion, etc.

Equipment Needed

1) Computer with a firewire interface (most new computers have this)

2) A digital video camera (either Hi-8 or Mini DV format)

3) A firewire cable to transfer the video from the camera to the computer

4) Software to edit video:

iMovie
Final Cut Pro and Express
MovieMaker
Adobe Premiere
Pinnacle Studio 8
