First Week   (Aug. 29, Sept. 2)

Introduction to course.  Study skills.
Tuesday
Getting acquainted
    Review NOMINATIVE case and do the review sheet.  Review both singular and PLURALS in your packet.
    Review ACCUSATIVE case and do the review sheet.  Review both singular and PLURALS in your packet.
 
Wednesday
    Review LOCATIVE case singular and plural.  Do the review sheet in your packet.
    Review GENITIVE case singular and plural.  Do the review sheet in your packet.

   

Friday
    Review DATIVE case singular and plural.  Do the review sheet in your packet.
    Review INSTRUMENTAL case singular and plural.  Do the review sheet in your packet.


Second Week   (Sept. 5-9)
Monday  -  Labor Day Holiday

Tuesday
    Complete pages 17 and 18 of the review of CASES.  Oral practice in class.
Wednesday
      
FIRST QUIZ - use of Russian case forms (fill in) plus names of the cases in Russian.
Friday
         Return QUIZ.  In your reader, start Pushkin's Stationmaster («Выстрел») by reading pp. 87-88.  In my materials, do pp. 80-81, which accompany the reading.  I will not collect the answers but we shall use them in class to answer the questionas as we read the text aloud.

Third Week   (Sept. 12-16)
Monday
In your reader, Pushkin's the Shot («Выстрел») . Read through p 89.  In my materials, do p 82, which accompanys the reading.     
Tuesday
     First class @ the Language Resource Center, Southwick, Redstone Campus.  We will be practicing Dialogue #1, so that you can send me an MP-3 file (to be graded with audio comments on your reading).  IN THE LAB - Open the program AUDACITY.    Place the CD with the dialogues on it in the drive and run the CD.  In AUDACITY go to >PROJECY (on the command line); go to >Import audio.  Double click the title of your CD in the list.  The dialogues will load onto AUDACITY.  Practice the dialogue until you are ready for it to be graded. 
Your finished MP-3 file of these materials is due Friday, September 17.  Export the file to me as an MP-3.  See the LINK information.  Send it to me using the UVM Transfer system @ http://www.uvm.edu/filetransfer/  If you wish to download it for your home computer, the URL for Audacity is http://audacity.sourceforge.net/.

Fourth Week    (Sept. 19-23)

  Davis, Oprendek et al, Making Progress in Russian -  Homework,  page 25 in your instructional materials.   In class, we shall drill the new verb sets положить/класть, поставитс/ставить.  We shall go over these conjugations as well.
Tuesday
In class, we shall drill the new verb sets положить/класть, поставитс/ставить.  We shall again review these conjugations as well.
Wednesday
QUIZ on mostion verbs of carrrying and placing.  Be sure you review the regular mostion verbs, since all of this fits together.
Friday
Class cancelled to attend Memeorial Service for Prof. James Peterson, Antrhropology, murdered while doing research in the Amazon.

Fifth Week  (Sept. 26-30)
Monday
Davis, Oprendek et al, Making Progress in Russian (pp. 333-340).  This grammar reading contains the major information on prefixed verbs of motion.  Homework,  p. 26 in your instructional materials. We shall go over this in class.
Tuesday
Review sheet.  We shall read over the dialogues on pp. 23-24.  These dialogues give you important information on "getting around."  You will be responsible for knowing how this system works.
Wednesday
Review.  Write out pp. 28, 29 from the instructional materials.
Friday
Write out pages 30-31 in your instructional materials.

Sixth Week  (Oct. 3 - 7)
Monday
   In Davis, Oprendek et al, Making Progress in Russian, read  pp. 303-309.  You already know this material.  It explains the "taking/leading" verbs plus forms expressing limited duration with the prefix по-.  Then procede to read the information in Unit 12 , pp. 340-342 on verbal prefixes.  This is a lot of information.  However, the only way to learn it is to attack it!   Bring the book to class.  I shall go over the unit 12 material  from it.     Homework,  page s 32-33 in your instructional materials.   Oral practice on prefixed motion verbs and prepositional phrases.

Ninth Week    (Oct. 24 - 28)

Wednesday  In your reader, Pushkin's The Shot («Выстрел»), read through pp 102-104.  In my materials, do those pages which accompanys the reading. 
  
Friday  Submit a writen retelling «содержание» of The Shot («Выстрел») of what we have read to date {when you write, double space your work so that I have room for notations}.  Using your written work, be prepared to orally retell the story.  Advising note - last day to drop courses  with a grade of "W" (=  withdraw).

Tenth Week   (October 31 - November 4)

Davis, Oprendek et al, Making Progress in Russian - please read Chapter 2, pp 32-38 Homework,  pp. 37-38 in your instructional materials.   We shall discuss the grammar and do the homework in class.
Tuesday
