I received my Sc.B. degree in Physics from Brown University and my M.S. and Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. Beginning in 1995, I was a Director's Postdoctoral Fellow in the Biophysics Group (P-21) at Los Alamos National Lab. I joined the faculty of the Department of Physics at University of Vermont in 1998. I am also affiliated with the Center for X-ray Crystallography within the Structural Biology and Bioinformatics effort at UVM.  I am currently serving as an Associate Program Director for Vermont EPSCoR.  In AY2007-08 I am serving as Interim Associate Dean of the Honors College.

Schedule (Fall 2007 | Spring 2008):

  • My office hours for Fall 2007 are Tuesday, 1-3 pm.
  • You can view a copy of my week schedule here.

Teaching

Research

  • Protein dynamics

I'm interested in the functional and structural consequences of protein dynamics. The projects in my lab are aimed at achieving a quantitative understanding of biological function and enzyme mechanism. In addition, we have been working on looking at charge transfer in nucleic acids.

  • Projects

    • Charge transfer in DNA.
    • Structural biology and kinetic crystallography
    • Heme proteins (myoglobin, hemoglobin, cytochrome P450cam)
    • Energy transduction proteins (photosynthetic reaction centers from R. sphaeroides).
