How Animals Survive The Winter
Grades: 1-3
“Get out of bed it’s time for school!” Kris’s older brother yells.
Kris looks out the window at the big snowflakes falling and buries her head
even deeper under the covers. “It’s too cold outside to go to school!” She
yells back. “ Not if you wear your undershirt, turtleneck, sweater, jacket,
hat, ear muffs, mittens, scarf, ski pants, and boots.” Her older brother
shouts.

At the bus stop Kris stands shivering when a rabbit catches her
eye. While the other kids are busy making fake farting noises, Kris wonders how the rabbit and other animals
survive during winter. She asks everyone at the bus stop, all the kids on the
bus, the bus drive, the principle, the lunch lady, and 3 teachers but no one
seems to know how animals survive during the winter.
Kris comes running into class and sits down next to you. “You’re my
only hope. Can you tell me how animals survive the winter?” Your body fills
with excitement “I think I know where we can look for the answers.” You grab
Kris’s hand and run to computer.
