This view shows the construction of Locust Street from Pine Street. The open space on the left was formerly the C.R. Hayward Estate and beyond the fence on the right is South Park.(1) At this point in construction it appears the road bed has been dug and a stone base has been laid down. The edge of the new street has been marked off with a series of stakes lining the left side.(2)

On the left side of the street, formerly open field, several houses were built around 1950, coinciding with the opening of Locust Terrace.(3) The park on the right has been renamed Calahan Park.
