Tropical Rainforest Conservation and Cocoa
Tropical Rainforests hold the very essence of the beauty of diversity found on Earth. They not only play a vital role in feeding humanity, but also hold the secrets of vast medicinal value waiting to be uncovered. They are home to countless species of wildlife and are home to a few remaining indigenous societies. Despite the crucial role that the rainforests play in the global economy and on influencing global and regional climates, the forests are being destroyed at an alarming rate every day. It is estimated that of every ten minutes of every day, approximately 800 acres of virgin tropical rainforest is bulldozed, or cut for logging. Within this unfathomable destruction, countless rare and valuable plants, animals, and insects are destroyed….many of which are forever lost.
If we continue the present rate of destruction, there will be no more rainforests left in just a few decades. * The graph on the following page illustrates the declining rate of rainforests around the world with a comparison of original rainforest land mass overlapped with current rainforest land mass.
