President Salmon´s response to forum

"As the university continues to work hard to increase diversity and enhance the campus climate, it is very important to listen carefully to persons of color about their experiences and challenges here at UVM. Friday´s forum was a good opportunity to do just that, " the president said in a statement.

"While I believe the university is making good progress in a number of areas related to diversity, it is clear that the institution must pay very special attention to the specific issues of racism and racial diversity. Important members of the UVM family are hurting, and face difficulties that most members of our community cannot begin to fathom. In particular, I am deeply troubled when people are threatened and demeaned by the kind of racist drivel we observed in recent incidents of campus."

"I am hopeful that we can apply the testimony we heard on Friday to positive ends in our diversity planning efforts."
