Acacia is suing the University of Vermont to stop a suspension of the fraternity that was imposed as punishment for a hazing incident in November.

In their suit, members of the Acacia fraternity said they were denied due process during university disciplinary hearings against them. The fraternity wants the two-year suspension overturned. Acacia also wants the university to pay their attorney's fees and to pay unspecified damages.

In February, the University of Vermont Judicial Couneil ordered Acacia to stop all chapter activities, pledge drives, social events and meetings until the year 2000 as punishment for the hazing incident, which included racial overtones.
