Windows: Download Chime from the site above.  You will have to unstuff it and start the installer.  From this point on, it should install automatically - simply follow any additional prompts.

Macintosh:   Whereas installation in Windows is totally automatic, installation of Chime 2.0 on the Macintosh is tricky at one point.  Download CHIME from the site above.  Now Quit from Netscape. Discard the hqx file after the Installer is unpacked to your desktop.  Run the Installerby double clicking.

When it asks you to “Select Folder”, you must specify the correct folder!

Use Finder to find the folder containing your Netscape application. This folder should contain a folder named plug-ins - which is where CHIME must be installed  Now in the Chime Installer’s “Select Folder” highlight the plug-ins folder you just located, then click on the “Select” button.
From this point on, it should install automatically - simply follow any additional prompts.

However you must still check to be sure CHIME is installed in the correct folder (sometimes there is more than one version of Netscape, and unfortunately, Chime's installer will announce success regardless of whether you put Chime in the correct folder. If put in the wrong folder, Chime simply won't work).  Restart Netscape, and use the pulldown menu  “About plug-ins” under HELP menu. If Chemscape Chime is not listed, then it was installed in the wrong folder. That would mean you have several copies or versions of Netscape in various places. Figure out which is the active one and rerun the Chime Installer.

If Chime still does not work, go to “About plug-ins” under HELP menu.  Look at the Chime plug in and make sure that all mime types are enabled.......  If they are not, go to “Preferences” in Netscape.  Under “Navigator” ---> “Applications”, find all the plug-in applications.  Scroll down to find the ones which were not enabled.  Select the diabled applications (which probably has “Unknown: prompt user” after it)t, and click on the “Edit” button.  This will bring up a dialog box with several radio buttons on it, with the “Unknown: prompt user” button at the bottom selected.  Some applications will  “CHIME” in inactive text opposite the “Application” button at the top of the list.  Click on the “Application” button, which will (hopefully) activate and show “Chime”.  This should enable all the necessary applications.

Go back to check “About Plug-Ins” to be sure that everything is enabled.
