POSTER ACTIVITY  (30 minutes)

Go to PubMed.  Use Entrez to search for information about the clinical manifestations, and the cellular, molecular and biochemical basis of the phenotype, condition or disease you have chosen. There is no minimum or maximum amount of information to find - in the real world, the only criterion of quality is to do as much as necessary to do the job right.

Information of interest  includes the following:

  • The aberrant phenotype.
  • Clinical treatment and prognosis.
  • The function of the relevant protein. An explanation of how and why it produces the aberrant phenotype.
  • A description of the aberrant structure (changes in primary, secondary and tertiary structure) of the protein.
  • An explanation of how and why the aberrant structure of the variant changes the function of the protein.
  • An explanation of how and why the defective function of the variant results in the aberrant phenotype.

Examine and compile all relevant hits. Print  all information which you think may be useful for your Poster, and save it for later use.

Create a bibliography of sources from PubMed. Print the bibliography and hand it in to your instructor.
