Only the curious need attend Thursday, April 28, when UVM presents and celebrates student investigation, discovery, creativity and insight. It’s the 10th annual Student Research Conference, where nearly 400 undergraduate and graduate students will fill the fourth floor of the Davis Center from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to share their labors, from either the lab, library, field or studio.

Want to know more about the artistic activism of women in Iran? Polygyny and polyandry in ants? Vaccination trends in Vermont? Demographics of online communities using the #AllLivesMatter and #BlackLivesMatter hashtags? These are just a few of the hundreds of projects students will present and converse on with conference attendees.

While the conference continues to show student work from across the colleges and disciplines, there's an invigorated focus this year on the fine arts, social sciences and humanities. This year's conference features more than triple the number of students majoring in these areas compared to last year. Watch student performances of Shakespearean soliloquies on film and see a series of advanced painting students’ work, for example.

Conference attendees are encouraged to share what they learn using the hashtag #uvmresearch on their public Instagram and Twitter accounts. Prizes, which include two $100 gift certificates to the UVM bookstore, will be awarded to hashtag users at random. Student presenters are also eligible to participate.

See the full schedule on the conference website.
