University of Vermont Associate Professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences Elise Everett, M.D., has been selected to serve on the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics (APGO) Undergraduate Medical Education Committee (UMEC) following a competitive selection process. Her appointment will be official at the conclusion of UMEC’s March 4, 2016 meeting in New Orleans, La.

In order to ensure a well-balanced committee, APGO considers geographic location, subspecialty, areas of special interest, diversity issues, experience, and, most importantly, the candidate’s commitment to undergraduate education and participation and support of APGO activities.

Committee members serve for three two-year renewable terms with a maximum total of six years of service.  Members chosen to serve as chair in their senior year stay on the committee and serve as chair for an additional two years.

The UMEC requires a serious commitment of talent and time. In addition to committee meetings at the January Faculty Development Seminar and the Council on Resident Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology (CREOG) and APGO Annual Meeting in March, the committee holds a separate four-day summer meeting in late July. The 2016 summer meeting dates are July 15-19, 2016.

Everett, who joined UVM in 2011, is the obstetrics and gynecology clerkship director. She was a member of the APGO 2013-14 class of the Academic Scholars and Leaders Program, a rigorous, 15-month curriculum designed to enhance education in obstetrics and gynecology by preparing obstetrics/gynecology physician faculty with the skills and knowledge necessary to be outstanding teachers and educational administrators. Her clinical research interests include neoadjuvant chemotherapy for ovarian cancer, robotic surgery, and adenocarcinoma of the cervix. She has experience in curriculum development in the areas of robotic surgery, laparoscopic surgery, simulation, and communication. Everett has been recognized locally for her commitment to medical education through resident and student teaching awards. She serves on numerous College of Medicine, hospital, and departmental committees related to medical education.
