The University of Vermont will host two leading sustainability scholars – ecologist Andrew Balmford and economist Stephen Polasky – for a public dialogue on Oct. 27.

Moderated by Jane Lindholm of Vermont Public Radio, the free event will occur in UVM’s Billings Library from 3:30-5 p.m., followed by a reception in Billings Apse.

The title of the talk is: “An Economist and Ecologist Walk into a Bar… and Discuss the Future of the Planet.” It will explore key global environmental issues, including climate change, renewable energy and conservation.

The lecture combines two major UVM guest speaker programs. Balmford is a Burack Distinguished Lecturer for the 2015/16 academic year and Polasky is a UVM James Marsh Professor-at-Large.

The event is hosted by the Gund Institute, in collaboration with the Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources

Media partner RETN Channel 16 will record the event for future broadcast online and across Vermont cable channels. The dialogue is made possible with support from the UVM President’s Office and Dan and Carol Burack.

Learn more about the event in UVM's campus calendar. Other opportunities exist to engage with the visiting scholars, including a public Gund Tea by Andrew Balmford on Oct. 30 at noon at Johnson House.
