Presidential hopeful will provide opening remarks ahead of keynote address by international expert on patient-centered care

Sen. Bernie Sanders, who announced in April that he would seek the 2016 Democratic nomination for president, is scheduled to offer opening remarks at the Laura Mann Integrative Healthcare Lecture Series and Family Medicine Grand Rounds on Monday, May 18 at 8 a.m. in the UVM Medical Center's Davis Auditorium.

Keynote speaker Dr. Tracy Gaudet, director of the Veterans Health Administration Office of Patient-Centered Care and Cultural Transformation, will talk on “Integrative and Patient-Centered Care: Healthcare Improvement or True Transformation?”

An internationally-known expert for her work in transforming health care from a traditional disease-based model to a new model of care based on patient-centered health care, Gaudet was named a “Top 25 Women in Healthcare 2011” by Modern Healthcare magazine.

The lecture series is sponsored by the Laura Mann Center for Integrative Health and the College of Nursing and Health Sciences. The Patient and Family Centered Care initiative is serving as a partner for the lecture, which is being held in collaboration with the local Veteran’s Administration.

The lecture is free and open to the public and will be followed by a reception. Live streaming video for overflow audience members will be available in the McClure Lobby Conference Room.
