Rory Waterman, associate professor of chemistry, co-organized a symposium, "Department, University, and National Models for Faculty Development to Support Adoption of Evidence-Based Teaching,” at the recent American Chemical Society National Meeting in Denver. This symposium brought together administrators and faculty to discuss “methods to encourage faculty to use more progressive, vetted pedagogies,” Waterman reports. During the symposium, Waterman presented results from a workshop for chemistry faculty that he created with professor Andrew Feig of Wayne State University showing that “participants not only are aware of more evidence-based pedagogies,” Waterman said, “but also have more student-centered classrooms than faculty who did not participate.”
