Voice of America recently broadcast an interview with UVM psychology professor Karen Fondacaro. Through the Connecting Cultures program, which she created, Fondacaro and her graduate students provide culturally sensitive counseling to refugees in the Burlington area who have experienced torture and trauma in their home countries. The program has been so successful that demand for its services among refugees exceeds its capacity.

“Fondacaro hopes global compassion for the traumatized will grow and that more funds will become available to help those who have been tortured to walk a happier and safer life path,” the broadcast concludes. The interview was heard on radio stations around the world.
