A weeklong cultural exchange between the College of Education and Social Services and the Arts College of Inner Mongolia University (ACIMU) culminates on Wednesday, Oct. 29 at 7:30 p.m. with a free performance by musicians and dancers from ACIMU at the UVM Recital Hall.

The ongoing academic exchange, which supports global learning, allows music and dance faculty and students from both universities to visit each other's country, experience their respective cultures, and share ideas. A delegation from ACIMU is spending the last week of October in Burlington, sharing the music, dance and culture of Inner Mongolia through a series of workshops in Burlington elementary and high schools. The goal is to provide Vermont students the opportunity to learn about the musical instruments of Inner Mongolia, such as the horsehair fiddle, and to learn the traditional dances of the region.

UVM and ACIMU music and dance students will also have the opportunity to collaborate on music and dance workshops at the Department of Music. UVM sent a contingent to Inner Mongolia this past summer for the first time, where they performed a dance program, attended classes and collaborated with ACIMU arts students. Learn more about that trip.

For more information on the exchange or to request special accommodations for the performance on Oct. 29, call (802) 656-7985 or email jdrouin@uvm.edu.
