The University of Vermont is offering an unprecedented 30 percent tuition savings for the 2014 Summer University program, giving students the opportunity to get ahead, stay on track and graduate on time – all with a substantial savings.

Summer U, which offers online and on-campus options for undergraduates, visiting undergraduates, graduate students and professional students, is doubling its summer program tuition savings over last year and offering 30 percent off UVM’s regular academic year tuition.

“UVM is committed to affordability, financial access and helping students graduate on time,” says UVM President Tom Sullivan. “UVM’s Summer U program is an opportunity for students to make progress on their course work, improve their GPA, change majors and complete their studies within four years.”

With the 30 percent savings on summer courses, in-state students pay $400 vs. $570 per credit, and out-of-state students will pay $1,010 vs. $1,442 per credit.

Summer U offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses – from cultural anthropology to public health and health policy, to organic chemistry and plant and soil science. Summer U includes more than 500 online and on-campus courses taught by distinguished faculty who are experts in their fields. Nearly 150 online courses meet core requirements for majors and minors and can be taken from any location. Many courses offered are only available in the summer, such as Summer Academy and the Catamount Farm Summer Experience program.

Summer U gives students the chance to experience more one-on-one time with faculty in classes that are smaller, shorter and more intense. In addition, high school students, students from other colleges and working professionals join the UVM campus in the summer, giving students the chance to participate in a diverse learning environment.

Burlington was recently named American’s Best College Town by Travel + Leisure, and Burlington in the summer is no exception.

 “Aside from the academic benefits of Summer U, an added bonus is the chance to spend the summer in Burlington,” Sullivan says. “Festivals, events, outdoor dining on Church Street and endless opportunities for outdoor recreation make Burlington a perfect place to spend the summer.”
