Associate professor Dr. Julie Dumas is featured in a Los Angeles Times article looking into cognitive decline in NFL players. Recent studies have discerned that the neurological effects of concussions are wide ranging, and Dumas’ work with cognition in middle-aged women is cited as a mirror example – both groups exhibit a phenomenon known as “cognitive reserve” that can serve as an early warning system for brain damage.
