Professor emeritus Robert Larson presents research and case studies that critique the current climate of top-down management of U.S. public schools in his book Changing Schools from the Inside Out: Small Wins in Hard Times. One reviewer called the book "a powerful antidote to the heavy-handed, top-down corporate model of schooling being dished out in Washington and by the think tank policy wonks who believe that all education needs is more centralized control and measurement precision." Alternatively, Larson advocates small-scale, incremental changes to improve schools at a time when resources are scarce. The book is available from Amazon.com.
