Thomas L. Read, music professor emeritus, is having a busy season with concerts as violin soloist and with performances of his music, beginning with the 10th anniversary concert of September 11 and his moving "A Watch in the Night." Internationally known guitarist, Aaron Larget-Caplan performed "Moon thru the Window" in September in Vermont and in December in Cambridge, Mass. This piece was commissioned as part of Larget-Caplan’s New Lullaby Project. Burlington’s own choral group, Social Band, toured with three of Read’s works: "No Vermonters in Heaven" (a premiere) as well as "Changes" and "Serenade." David Pihl included Piano Sonata No.1 in the American Music Concert Series at Lawrence Academy in January of this year. The Vermont Contemporary Music Ensemble gave a premiere of "Meridian" (septet) in their February series. Next week will be a performance of the Chamber Concerto as part of the final concerts for the season. Read will conduct a performance of his orchestral concert orverture, "Resound," which will open the gala spring concert of the Burlington Choral Society on April 21.
