Section Expectation

In this course, we will explore the fascinating intersection of race, language policy, and education. Through reflections and group discussions on Blackboard, we will delve into the ways in which language is used to construct ideas about race and how these notions influence the teaching and learning of English learners in multicultural settings. We will learn how to unpack and examine our biases and assumptions and promote equity and social justice in education. We will also look at historical and cultural contexts that shape current policies for linguistically diverse students and how raciolinguistic ideologies impact language diversity in education. With a critical, equity-focused approach, We will examine educational and linguistic barriers that impact immigrants, refugees, and undocumented immigrants and develop competencies for recognizing and naming dynamics at individual, group, and system levels. By the end of the course, you'll emerge as a more culturally aware and competent learner with practical skills in analysis, evidence-based discussions, and policy implications.
