Section Description

This is the third course that comprises the clinical practicum sequence in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD). Graduate students will primarily be at an off-campus practicum site (COVID-19 dependent) although may be assigned a full-time placement to provide services to individuals with communication disorders in the University of Vermont Eleanor M Luse Center for Communication if remaining in the greater Burlington area. Supervised practicum will include experiences with client/patient populations across the lifespan & from culturally/linguistically diverse backgrounds. Experience with client/patient populations with various types & severity of communication &/or related disorders, differences, & disabilities will also be included.

Section Expectation

In addition to time spent in direct service to client(s), additional time will be required for preparation and management of the assigned cases(s) including necessary clinical documentation.

Evaluation

The final grade for this course will be the grade assigned for performance in the on-campus clinic and/or off campus practicum site. Assessment in clinical practicum is ongoing. Feedback on planning, implementation, & evaluation of sessions is given on a weekly basis during meetings with supervisors. A formal evaluation of performance will be conducted at the end of the semester. Students will be expected to self-critique accurately, responsibly, & insightfully.
