Introduction to mathematics of finite systems with applications, such as probability, statistics, graph theory, fair division and apportionment problems, voting systems. Prerequisites: Two years of secondary school algebra or MATH 009 or MATH 010.

### Section Description

In this course you will explore how basic mathematics is used in many different applications in real life. Topics include finding the winner in an election (voting theory), dividing an estate (fair division), compound interest and annuities (financial math), probability and statistics, and finding the shortest route to deliver flowers (graph theory). Recommended Textbook: Excursions in Modern Mathematics by Peter Tannenbaum, 10th edition

### Evaluation

There are 9 chapters in the course and you will be expected to complete the homework and a short on-line test for 7 of the 9 chapters.
