About NFS 095 OL1
This course will examine the link between nutrition and exercise on performance and health. The goal of this course is to introduce students to the importance of nutrition and exercise on overall health and athletic performance. The course will explore a variety of exercise and nutrition-related topics including pre-exercise eating, proper hydration, recovery, weight management, supplementation, and understanding proper healthy eating. The course covers nutrition basics and current diet trends to help students and practitioners obtain the knowledge needed to advise athletes and active individuals how to optimize their health and performance. Section Expectation Emphasizing a hands on practical approach, students will learn how to assess their individual nutrition and wellness needs based on lifestyle factors and training demands, walking away with an understanding of how to meet these needs now and in the future. No prior knowledge of nutrition is required. Evaluation Grading for this course will be based on participation, attendance, projects, and exams. Exams will be in the form of multiple choice or True/False questions. Extra credit will be available.

Section Description
The goal of this course is to introduce students to the importance of nutrition and exercise on overall health and athletic performance. The course will explore a variety of exercise and nutrition-related topics including pre-exercise eating, proper hydration, recovery, weight management, supplementation, and practical approaches for leading a healthy lifestyle. The course covers nutrition basics and current diet trends to help students obtain the knowledge needed to optimize overall wellness and athletic performance. Course Objectives: 1. Evaluate one’s own current diet, and how it does or does not meet the specific needs of their health. 2. Use basic principles of health and wellness to develop an informed, personal approach to fitness and overall wellbeing. 3. Develop a comprehensive and personalized approach to improve mental wellbeing. 4. Understand the physiology, fundamentals, and basic adaptations of aerobic exercise and strength training.
Section Expectation
This course is exclusively online and will be accessed through Blackboard. Course content will be released in modules featuring a combination of recorded lectures and assignments with specified due dates and directions. Students must be able to manage their time to complete module activities, work independently, but also interact with classmates through various forms of media. Required material for this course includes Understanding Nutrition, 15th Edition by Eleanor Whitney. Students should expect to spend 6-8 hours per week on coursework.
Evaluation
Students will be graded on timely completion of written reflections, discussion board posts, self-assessments and quizzes.
