The basis of inheritance, covering topics from classical genetics to modern molecular studies. Analysis of genetic data emphasized, from prokaryotic, animal, and plant systems. Prerequisites: [(BCOR 011 or BIOL 001) and (BCOR 012 or BIOL 002)], or BCOR 021; and also CHEM 031, or CHEM 035, or CHEM 051.
Dates: May 24 - June 18, 2021. Prereqs: BCOR 11/12 or BCOR 21 or BIOL 01/02; CHEM 31 or 35 or 51. This will be a synchronous combined lecture/discussion.
The goals of this course are to develop a deep understanding of the major concepts in genetics, learn how to apply these concepts to solve problems, and to develop a capacity to think critically about real-world issues related to genetics. The course covers topics from classical genetics to modern molecular studies. Analysis of genetic data is emphasized, from prokaryotic, animal, and plant systems.
This course combines lectures and discussions involving group and individual work. Students should expect to spend 2-4 hours per week on coursework outside of class, with additional time for exam preparation.
