Introductory study of visual experience through drawing and its transformation of the three-dimensional visual world onto a two-dimensional surface. Emphasis varies with Instructor.
Dates: May 24 - June 18, 2021; Lab Fee $95.00; This is a 3 credit studio art class which requires more contact hours than a conventional course. Modality: REMT Days & Times: TWR-9:00 am to 12:45 pm
Drawing has always been a fundamental part of art making. However, in the last several years drawing has gained credibility as an established method of creating finished artworks. Drawing 001 is an introduction to the methods, materials, and concepts involved in drawing. We will work from observation and from research. A lab fee covers the cost of materials. The lab fee for the class covers most of the materials we will be using as well as shop fees for the use of the wood and welding facilities. We will be putting together kits for students so that everyone can have the means to create drawings for the class. Students who are working from home can request a kit be mailed to them in January. The lab fee covers the cost of the materials in the kit; there will be an additional charge to cover the cost of shipping any kits.
This class will be taught remotely. However, it is a very hands-on class. Students will be expected to create finished projects, document and present them during Teams meetings. The class will be synchronous and will meet on Teams during our regularly scheduled class periods. Students should be interested in learning various processes that can create drawings. Students do not need prior drawing experience to participate in this class. Part of the course structure will include critiques in which students will be asked to discuss each other’s projects in conjunction with presenting their own work.
Evaluation: Completion of assigned projects, participation in synchronous critiques and meetings.
