About NFS 253 OL1

Comprehensive examination of U.S. food laws and regulations and their relationships to the safety of the U.S. food supply. Focus on how food-related laws and regulations are enacted and enforced, through detailed examination of selected food regulation topics. Prerequisite: NFS 153 or equivalent course/training with Instructor permission.

Section Description

This course is designed to provide a detailed overview of the extent, applicability, and flexibility of United States food laws and regulations, and their relationships to the safety of the US food supply. Over the course of the semester, you will learn the structure of the federal government, how laws and regulations are enacted and enforced, examine the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act and its amendments, and examine how the food safety decision-making process works within the framework of the associated federal laws and regulations.

Evaluation

Two online exams (30 points each), 10 online quizzes (total 20 points) and a short paper on a food regulation topic (20 points). Total of 100 points possible.
