Did the dog eat your homework…. the entire semester? Looking to strengthen your time management skills? Curious why studying the night before an exam does not typically work? Interested in learning how the brain retains information so you can ace that next exam? AS 95: Academic Success Strategies is a 1-credit course that will provide you with a platform to self-reflect, ask questions and hone in on those skills that will be foundational to success here at UVM. While college is an exciting time to further your learning, many find that with a fast pace environment and increased freedom comes more personal responsibility and self-management. Through this course, you will have the opportunity to both strengthen and practice essential skills including time-management, note taking, testing, effective listening, goal setting and study skills. Through self-reflection, small and large group discussions, as well as course assignments, you will leave this course feeling like you can handle just about anything!

Section Expectation

At the conclusion of this course you will be able to: 1. Utilize time management techniques and organizational strategies 2.Generate specific short-term and long- term academic goals 3. Use effective note-taking and study strategies 4. Understand the difference between surface learning and deep learning 5. Demonstrate a growth mindset vs a fixed mindset

Evaluation

This online class will be module based. Your grade will be comprised of group discussions, reflections and reading logs. Many of the modules build upon each other so it is important to be timely with your submission of assignments.
