About NR 195 TR1

In this course, students will explore Dutch water management and sustainability practices and technologies while touring the Netherlands via bicycle*. With more than 2/3rds of the country lying at or below sea level, and with 18 million inhabitants, managing water and living sustainably are essential for both human safety and to ensure a strong economy. Students will learn from and interact with professionals when visiting solar bike paths, green buildings, innovative flood control and critical historic water infrastructure projects, museums, and sustainable farms and greenhouses. Along the way, students will learn how the Netherlands history has shaped its water resources and sustainability management practices, and will learn to calculate a Community Water Footprint. *Disability accommodations are available. Students must contact the instructor by April 10 to make arrangements.
